The Members of the Foreign Language Center
Director: Currently, the director of the Center is Dr. Lai, an associate professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature. He also serves concurrently as the director of the Foreign Language Center. Email address: chlai@mail.ncku.edu.tw Staff and their responsibilities: The Center is staffed by Mr. Rong Hsueh, Mr. Mao-an Lin, Miss Pi-Chun Sun, and Miss Chia-ying Chen. They help execute secretarial chores, language training programs, and adult programs. Maria Chia-Ying Chen: mariac@mail.ncku.edu.tw 1. Compiling and/or designing instrumental English listening tests: 1) Collecting, classifying, and arranging of information related to English listening tests 2) Cooperating with English native speakers to record and make English tapes 2. Dealing with the tasks related to Freshmen and Sophomore English Exemption Tests 3. English testing tasks: 1) Assisting the Center with administering any language tests such as English Comprehensive Tests for Freshmen, proctoring GEPT tests, etc. 4. Instrumental English Writing Center: 1) In charge of professors’ applications to this service, and responsible for coordinating and maintaining contact with foreign teachers who proofread papers 2) In charge of service fee and temporary receipts 5. Tasks related to English teaching: 1) Teaching in Extension Education Program 2) Teaching the English courses offered for Civil Servants 3) Teaching English courses for administrators 6. Document dispatch and examination 7. Serving as Miss Sun’s post agent 8. Other interim affaires handed over by Director
1. In charge of the maintenance of facilities, especially electronic equipments. He is also the person who supervises the operation of the Media Resources Room. 2. Inviting tenders for purchasing software and its execution 3. The maintenance and management of Multi Media Server 4. Audio-visual Rooms 1) Maintenance and management of equipment 2) Making manuals for operating the equipment in these rooms 5. Assisting with tasks related to Extension Education Programs such as arranging classrooms and coordinating teachers 6. Programs for Government Employees: 1) Recruiting, and responsible for receiving and refunding tuition 2) Arranging teachers and curriculum 3) Arranging students’ profiles, compiling statistics of students’ grades and their attendance records 7. Arranging and managing classrooms for teachers to use 8. Designing, maintaining and modifying the homepage of the Foreign Language Center 9. Arranging classes for evening Extension Education Programs: 1) Designing and printing the curriculum each term 2) Coordinating and contacting with relevant staff from the department of Foreign Languages and Literature 10. In charge of testing affairs for the GEPT in Cheng Kung University and responsible for coordinating the proctors 11. Document dispatch and examination 12. Serve as Mr. Lin’s post agent 13. Other interim affaires handed over by Director
1. Dealing with tasks related to purchasing of any items such as computer equipment, office furniture, and teaching equipment 2. Dealing with the funds for any classes and plans: 1) Assisting with the organization of budgets and their execution 2) Canceling after verification, and filing expense accounts of funds 3. Dispatching and managing letters and documents 4. Managing and maintaining the environment and cleanliness of the Center 5. Maintaining and fixing water and electricity problems of the Center or assisting factories/companies/stores to execute such tasks 6. Managing any possessions and accounts of the Center 7. Assisting the Center with undertaking any affairs related to any instrumental courses 8. Assisting the Center to undertake any language tests such as English Comprehensive Tests and GEPT 9. Document dispatch and examination 10. Serve as Mr. Hsueh’s post agent 11. Other interim affaires handed over by Director
1. Extension Education Program: 1) In charge of tasks related to proposal documents, surveys of teachers’ opening classes, making of regulations for recruitment, and advertisement for classes offered in the Center. 2) Dealing with students’ mailings and on-the-spot registration. 3) Editing students’ profiles and storing as computer data, informing students about upcoming classes, handling students’ requests for getting a temporary parking permit 4) Making student IDs and roll books, examining and issuing of certificates 5) Affaires related to receiving and refunding tuition 2. Extension Education Program for Cheng Kung administrators: Arranging classes, editing students’ roll books and storing their data in computers, and examining and issuing certificates, etc. 3. In charge of the first part of proposal and documents related to Extension Education Program for Government Employees 4. Refunding Freshmen and Sophomores’ oral training fees 5. Handling the documents related to English Comprehensive Tests 6. Assisting the Center with undertaking any language tests such as English Comprehensive Tests and GEPT 7. Taking care of students’ comments and e-mail 8. Document dispatch and examination 9. Serve as Miss Chen’s post agent 10. Other interim affaires handed over by Director |
