Introduction to Each Classroom/Laboratory

  A. Audio-visual classrooms

The audio-visual classrooms of the Foreign Language Center are equipped with updated language teaching facilities that can aide multi-media teaching, Internet teaching and theater-style teaching. Four of the classrooms are located on the first floor of Hsiu-Chi Building, and two are on the third floor. One of the rooms on the third floor, Room 26304, can accommodate 64 people.  The other one, Room 26302, can seat 80 students. These two rooms can offer better services for those classes that have more than 60 students.

B. Simultaneous Interpretation Conference Room

The multi-language equipments in this room can offer all NCKU students simulation practices while taking “Oral Interpretation” or “Simultaneous Interpretation” courses.  This room will be remodeled to meet the needs of computerized language tests and to serve as a testing site for NCKU students as well as neighboring students.

C. Self Language-Learning Lab

There are sixty carrels in this lab. Nine among them are equipped with traditional audio equipments. Students can use the radios and VCRs there for language training.  The rest of 51 carrels are so called “study carrels” that are equipped with computers and microphones.  In addition, through LAN system, students can practice interactively with the content provided through the server. Students can learn and correct themselves according to their own levels without being disturbed. The Center also welcomes students to make a great use of the simulation test materials for TOEFL. In the future the Center is going to recommend freshman and sophomore English teachers to ask their students whose English learning ability is either higher or lower than average to choose suitable materials and then to learn in the Center instead of sitting in the class, so as to reduce problems resulted in a choral study situation.

  D. Oral-training Room

The Center is going to make good use of its four small size audio-visual classrooms to offer advanced classes for junior and senior students who have the need or are interested in improving their English listening and speaking abilities.
