Institute of Art Studies , NCKU／A Brief History

National Cheng Kung University（NCKU）is a prestigious university known for its striking achievements in scientific research. To balance the science-orientated scholarship against the emphasis on the humanities research, the Institute of Art Studies was formed in 1994. Since the Institute of Art Studies was established, the Flame Tree Theater has been rearranged to provide the Institute with a space for display and the planning of shows and exhibitions has been taken charge of by the Institute. The academic research of the Institute is under a fundamental tenet of interdisciplinary and cross-culture. The primary goal is to cultivate artists and researchers in terms of cultural autonomy. Aesthetics and Field work are two central subjects in the graduate curriculum and fine art, music, and drama are integrated to accord with the design of interdisciplinary research, providing students with an integrated and comprehensive training in the arts and humanities.
