2. When is the deadline of the application in academic year ?


The deadline is on April, 28. All the materials need to be submitted by postal service or in person.

3. Do I need to submit any language proficiency test result, such as TOEFL or IELTS?


Each department will have their own requirements on languages. Please refer to application instructions Point II. part (C) "Other requirements for individual departments" for more specific information.

However, demonstrating a language proficiency test along with your submitting materials may be helpful to your application.

4. What kinds of scholarship does the university offer?


A:The university offers 3 kinds of scholarships:

(1)Postgraduate Scholarship for Outstanding International Students:

Applicants for admission of NCKU don't need to fill out any other application forms for the scholarship, because the university will evaluate your submitted application materials (the application required materials are clearly stated in the application instructions) and decide your qualification for the scholarship for the 1st year. If you are given the scholarship, you will have tuition fee and on-campus accommodation fee waived for one year. Other fees such as monthly allowance or books...ect. are not included.

You will need to apply for the scholarship each year for the following years.

(2)Fellowships for International students:

This scholarship is based on the evaluation of your academic performance in the university. In other words, students should apply it after they have studied in the university for at least one semester.

(3)Assistantship for graduate student:

The departments are in charge of this scholarship. Each department has its own regulations. You may consult the department that you want to apply for details.

5. Do I need to know Mandarin to apply?

It depends. But Mandarin proficiency is necessary for those who apply for undergraduate studies, since there are some compulsory courses offered in Mandarin only.

Knowing some Mandarin may also be helpful to your life in Taiwan.

If you are interest in learning Chinese, there is also a Chinese language center in NCKU.

6. Does the university accept transfer students?


A: Currently, the university doesn't accept students apply as transfer students. There are only 2 ways to study in senior / junior year.

One is to participate in transferring examination, which is mainly for Taiwan students. If you are good in Chinese and have studied in a university as a university student for at least one year, you are encouraged to participate in the examination.

The other way is that you can apply bachelor programs first. After being accepted as a freshman, you can transfer credits in order to acquire the identity as sophomore, junior or senior.

In order to acquire the identity as sophomore, junior or senior, you need to be able to transfer the amount of credits indicated below:

7. Where can I find part-time jobs?


The information about part-time jobs are around the campus. The news may be on the bulletin boards of departments, or on the
NCKU website. But most of part time job information is on BBS. bbs://140.116.250.3 (in Chinese)

On-campus work opportunities doesn't require work permit. But work permit is required for off-campus job. With the exception of summer and winter vacations, students with work permit may work a maximum of 16 hours per week while the work permit is valid.
