The Center for General Education was established in 1996. Its major obligation is not specifically aimed to prepare a student for a job, but to equip the student with the essentials for living a full and satisfying life as a citizen of free society. These primary goals are: To provide the student with opportunities to develop the knowledge, attitudes, understandings and skills necessary for responsible citizenship in a democratic society. To help the student understand the social, political and economic problems of society on local, national and international levels. To foster an understanding and appreciation of the scientific method and the importance of science in our technological world. To cultivate an integrative habit of mind and the ability to think independently. AdiministrationThe center, located at Guan-Fu district, is composed by one Director and many professors. The Director who is appointed by President of N.C.K.U charges the administration of general education. (and acts as a convener of General Education Committee on campus. Besides, the center provides several research sections including Common core curriculum, liberal arts, social science, natural science, life science constituted by the full professors to sustain the further improvements in general education. FacilitiesIn the Center for general Education there is an Audio-visual classroom which can together seat 120 students. The Library of general education accommodates different kinds of periodicals and reference books dealing with philosophy, religion, literature, politics, sociology, medicine, economics, arts, life and natural science. These resources are available for general education to both faculty and students.
