Enrollment & Career Scheme

Student Enrollment

Undergraduate Program

Students can apply for the program through the following three channels: personal applications, school recommendation and university entrance examination. Personal application and school recommendation will take into account of the scores obtained in the academic ability examination sponsored by the College Entrance Examination Center, earth science examination, and interview. In the university entrance examination, only the scores in mathematics, chemistry, physics and English will be used for consideration of admission. In addition, the department will take in 3 to 5 transfer students at sophomore level each year. Various scholarships are offered to the students and 3 scholarship awards will be given to the top three students of the class.

Masters Program

Students can obtain admission through either screening test or entrance examination. Those who plan to submit application for the screening test need to provide supporting materials for assessment and prepare for an interview. In entrance examination students will be tested on three subjects. Students who are graduating the department with a bachelor degree with an outstanding grade will
be eligible for application for straight admission to the masters program during their junior year.

On-the-Job Masters Program

Students can apply through the entrance examination by passing the assessment of their supporting materials as well as taking an
examination in earth science (subjects includes geology, physics, chemistry and applied mathematics) in order to proceed with the interview.

Ph.D. Program

Ph.D. students will be selected based on their written supporting materials and their performance in an interview. They must provide their research proposal, thesis written for their masters degree (if not yet graduated, they must prepare the first draft of their masters thesis), recommendation letters, transcript and other supporting documents. Students who graduate from our masters program with distinction and desire to pursuit further education may apply to be advanced to the doctoral program directly.

Career Scheme

Upon graduation, many students proceed into geology, engineering, environmental protection, and education related positions in both public and private institutions. Some take interest in materials science and technology related industrial circles involving exploration, research/development or production of electric, photoelectric, and refractory materials, cement, stone, steel, and chemical engineering products, etc. So far, as many as several tens of alumni are currently in position of higher education or researchers within domestic and international institutions and research organizations.
