Academic Research
Research directions can be divided into four categories: earth environment, earth materials, satellite informatics and geohazard prevention. They can then be classified into fundamental earth science and applied science and technology according to their
nature.

(1) Fundamental Earth Sciences
To perform analysis and basic research in the fields of earth materials and their activities and evolution, global change, seismology, geochemistry, oceanography, geomicrobiology, tectonics, and hydrological and environmental geology, to pursue understanding of scientific principles, and to develop new research areas.
(2) Applied Science and Technology
Applications of technologies developed in the fields of earth, ocean, and environmental sciences including characterization of physical properties and synthesis of minerals, gems, and materials, earth and ocean science applications of radiogenic and stable isotopes, investigation and prevention 8 of natural hazards, studies of engineering geology, hydrogeology, and environmental pollution, development and utilization of water resource, satellite informatics and geodesy, and application of geographic information system, etc. In particular, the incorporation of faculty members and resources from the fields of satellite informatics have produced great success involving development of many related technology and credentials in collaboration with the Disaster Prevention Research Center and Satellite Information Research Center at this university in
recent years.

Resources & Laboratories

Tens of thousands of books and several tens of kinds of journals in the specialized fields available in the university library. In addition to laboratories for introductory earth science, mineralogy, petrology, and ore deposits. Each research field also has its own specialized laboratories for teaching and research needs, including:
