Introduction
Department of Environmental Occupational Health
Background
Rapid economic and industrial development during the past decades has resulted in a severe deterioration of environmental qualities in Taiwan. Consequently, adverse health effects implicated by exposures to these environmental pollutions are among top of public concerns. In addition, southern Taiwan has long inherited some very unique environmental and occupational exposures rarely seen in other parts of the country. It makes it even more imperative and meaningful for our research center, essentially the most comprehensive one in southern Taiwan in terms of its areas of technical expertise for investigating issues of environmental and occupational health, to commit ourselves in educating and training of professionals in this regard.
Established first in 1987, the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health began offering Master degree program in 1995, and Doctoral program in 2002. For a better-focused curriculum, four divisions were designed accordingly, including Industrial and Environmental Health, Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology, Toxicology and Analytical Technology. Physiciansand those with clinical backgrounds are also encouraged to register into the division of Environmental and Occupational Medicine.
