The Department has eight divisions:
    General Dentistry and oral diagnosis,
    Periodontics,
    Operative Dentistry,
    Endodontics,
    Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,
    Prosthodontics,
    Orthodontics and
    Pediatric Dentistry.

History:

In 1985, Dr. Han Liang-jun, professor of the Department of Dentistry, National Taiwan University Hospital, assisted in establishing the dental department and recruiting specialists from all fields.  At the opening of the Hospital, there were already seven divisional attendant physicians specialized in different areas.  Save for slight changes in the number of attendant physicians, the main model of divisions has been maintained for the past 16 years. In addition to the 8 divisions, we also have an Orofacial Pain Clinic for managing TMJ disorder. Therefore, our department is the most comprehensive dental clinic in any medical center within Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan area.  

The facility in the outpatient clinic includes 37 dental units in individual cubicles, accompanied by fully-equipped radiographic Rooms, a sterilization room, a dental laboratory, and an oral hygiene room.  In the radiographic rooms, there are five state of the art radiographic machines for periapical radiograph, transcranial radiograph of TMJ, panoramic and cephalometric radiograph, and tomography.  The division of Endodontics has the first surgical endodontic microscope in the nation. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has its own operation room and a medical ward with a total of 8 beds. There is also a separate dental laboratory with 12 lab benches for education and demonstration in the basement floor of the hospital. In addition to the full-time attendant physicians, there are also 22 part-time faculties assist instructing the interns, residents, and graduate students in the clinic.  To achieve top quality education and service, we have also dedicated ourselves to research and established the Institute of Oral Medicine of NCKU in 2002, with main research interests in oral cancer, oral tissue engineering, dental materials and image science.
